The Cine Comic Strip Exhibition

The following pictures are from me and Naiel Ibarrola's exhibition of cinema, jazz and comic strip melting pot at Tehran's Aun Gallery, something we have casually named Cine Comic Strip. To my surprise, the website of Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken note of our rather odd effort. On the day that I'm writing this, only two more days is left from the event which was received relatively well. Pop in if you are in Tehran!

The brochure of the gallery reads:

"The exhibition Comic Art is the outcome of the collaboration between Naiel Ibarrola, Spanish Illustrator and Ehsan Khoshbakht, Iranian film critic. In this series of works Ibarrola and Khoshbakht have used the comic format as a new form of film criticism. Exploiting the freedom and possibilities offered by this medium, they have displayed their alternative history of cinema in graphic form. One can observe two major themes in the exhibition. A number of illustrations are devoted to representation of Jazz in films, exploring major concepts in 5 outstanding films about jazz. A second theme is cinematic figures who passed away in 2013, discussing cinema and their achievements. Also included in the show is a piece, based on 'The Blind Owl', made exclusively for this exhibition in Iran.

Naiel Ibarrola is a Spanish comic-maker, illustrator and writer for a variety of mainstream and specialized media. He has done cover art and comics for some music bands. He is also the pianist/keyboardist in two bands. He lives and works in Bilbao, Spain.

Ehsan Khoshbakht writes about film and jazz for different publications, online and in print, in Farsi or in English. He is the author of the book Celluloid Architecture and the contributor to Film Directors Encyclopedia (both in Farsi). He currently lives and works in London, UK."
